An Open Letter

Dear Ticketmaster,

You suck.

All I wanted to do was take my daughters to a Taylor Swift concert. I was online right at 10 am.

I tried to buy tickets, but within seconds you were sold out.

The scalper...oh I mean broker site I visited had 2300 tickets available at 3 to 10 times the price 10 minutes after they went on sale. There is something very wrong with how this is okay.

Sincerely,

A Very Disappointed Mom

OK -- Now that I'm back, my economics side is coming out, and I just have to comment and play devil's advocate: If the scalpers are willing to incur the extra risk of buying tickets that might not get sold (and incurring extra transaction costs along the way), who's ticketmaster to (complainTicket master gets paid either way)? Your only hope is that the scalpers overbought and that in the last few days leading up to the concert they're willing to sell them at a discount. Although, I hate to say it, the scalpers are very sophisticated, and I doubt that will happen. Sorry to rain on your and the girl's parade..... :-(
