Sunday Musings

It's been a month now in my new calling as a primary teacher, and I am awed and inspired at how well my heavenly father knows me.

This calling is a joy. And while I have always enjoyed my callings, I really feel like this is where Heavenly Father wants me to be right now. What a good feeling.

It's so easy to get caught up in life...and forget why we are here and what we should be doing. These children remind me that faith is simple...and that by small and simple things, great things shall come to pass.

What a blessing.

Foolish Children

My life is seriously an O. Henry story.

Have you heard the one about the two young marrieds who are poor, poor, poor? They have very little in the way of material possessions, but the young wife has long beautiful hair, and young husband has a beloved old pocketwatch from his father.

Well, Christmas is coming and they scrimp and save and secretly buy the other a present that they know will be cherished.

So...the day arrives and they exchange presents. The husband presents the wife with a set of beautiful combs to put into her glorious hair, the the wife gives the husband a wonderful chain on which to display his pocketwatch.

Except...there is one problem. In order the buy the combs, the husband sold his pocketwatch. And...in order to buy the chain, the wife sold her hair. Foolish children.

Seriously. Does this remind you of anyone?

So...all the while I was planning my little getaway with Troy...which was foiled yesterday...he was planning his own surprise...but of course, I got totally upset with him yesterday, so it seemed anticlimactic, to say the least, to have him surprise me today.

But...it was wonderful nonetheless. We enjoyed sometime together, a lovely lunch, and a chance to remember it's always the thought that counts.

xo

Why Do I Bother?

You may or may not remember the post when I vowed that Troy and I would never celebrate Valentine's Day ever again.

And in keeping with that tradition...I thought maybe we would celebrate Valentine's on a different day, and maybe, just maybe it wouldn't be cursed.

So...I have spent the last few weeks secretly planning a lovely weekend getaway.

And, let me tell you, this has been no easy task.

First, I had to find an open date in our busy lives.

Then, I had to find babysitters. oy.

After that it was reservations, finding replacements for Troy's weekend meetings at Church, a sub for my class at church.

And...finally, after all that work, I was sure I had the perfect weekend planned.

A spa getaway...a mountain retreat. Massages, roman baths. Tell me that's not heaven.

And then...

Troy calls me today to ask me what we are doing the weekend of our getaway (remember, he has no idea what I've planned).

What are we doing? he asks.

Why do you want to know? I ask.

Oh, because I have to work.

WHAT?

Seriously.

Why do I bother?

Anyone wanna go on a lovely spa getaway with me?

I'm Alive

I've just keeping busy with my photography business...sadly I've become to cobbler whose children have no shoes.

Lots of photos of other people now...but none of my own.

That Just Seems Like a Lot of Work

As I was dropping Troy off at the train this morning I watched the couple ahead of us do the same thing.

Well, not quite.

As they both got out of the car into the frigid morning air...hugged goodbye for several moments and blew kisses to each other the entire length of the stair way...

All I could do was roll my eyes, mumble goodbye and shove Troy out the door.

15 years together...and we're still going strong. : )

Sweet Mary

Sweet Becky had her Christmas play this week...postponed because of the snow.

But...it was so worth the wait.

Isn't she the cutest little Mary ever?

Seriously.

Snow Day?

Are you serious?

No school?

WHAT?

Is a lack of heat really a good reason to cancel school?

I mean...isn't that what coats are for?
So...in addition to Christmas...we spent the break trying to fix up the kids rooms...Everyone is growing and it was time for a change.

When we first moved into this house...two of the three kids rooms had been painted...and both in very girly colors...so we just put the girls in the rooms that were already painted and stuck the boys in the boring white room.

Well..wouldn't you know it, but the boys room was the biggest and had a walk in closet. Tell me...what do two messy little boys need with that?

Finally...after all the years of living in this house...we painted that boring white room and...moved the girls in.

And, in the midst of all this...we finally moved Katie out of her crib and into a big girl bed...ack.

I regret it already. But...she will learn to sleep in her new bed soon...right?!?!?!

And since Emma will now be sharing a room with both Katie and Becky...we really tried to fix up her area...so she has her own little hideaway up there on the top bunk....and we let her pick the room's motif...which, if you know Emma, could only be monkey's.

All in all, I'd say they are well pleased.

Now...the boys are DYING for me to fix up what is now their very PINK room.

Resolute.

So...new year. new goals.

I want to lose weight.
I want to be more spiritual.
I want to live more in the moment.
I want to worry less.
I want to enjoy my life.

Got any resolutions?
