Wait For It

So, after planning activities at church for years now...I got released today.

I am both happy and sad.

Activities are a lot of work...but it is work that I enjoy it and I feel like, most of the time, I pull off a fairly good activity.

So, it really was sort of a comfort zone for me.

And today I got pulled out of that comfort zone...WAY OUT!

I got called to the Young Women's Program and I will be working with girls 16 to 18.

I find this to be a new and exciting challenge, but a terrifying one as well.

I did not have a good experience in young women...I was baptized at age 16 and never really fit in with the girls at church...and the leaders were awful. The girls at church thought the leaders were the bees knees, but they treated me pretty poorly.

Now, I am the leader! yikes.

I already have a real love for these girls, and I am SUPER excited to be working with them...I just wish it didn't feel so intimidating.

So, I worked hard on my lesson, came up with a really great object lesson, which I also worked really hard on, dressed with care and made my way to church.

Well, there's nothing like walking into church with your skirt tucked into your underwear to shoot your confidence all to heck.

**big sigh**

I guess there's no where to go but up. Right?

Welcome to Young Womens Denise!
It's going to be awesome!
And don't think we're not going to tap into that "party planning" talent you have. Your just going to be planning for a younger group!:)

Wow! Congrats on the new calling. I am terrified of being called to YW, having never attended myself (since I wasn't baptized until I was 18). You will do great!!

I've never had a young women's calling...I think you will do great! I almost excpected you to write, "there is no where to go 'butt' up"
Good luck in your new calling!

OH that is awesome. I can't imagine you feeling intimidated by them. I think you will do great and I feel that you have a great self esteem that will be perfect for those girls. I am excited for you and for them too. They are going to LOVE you just like everyone else does. Denise, you CAN make a huge difference in their lives. I am sure there are some in there that feel like you did when you were 16. Who took your place?

You are going to love YW. I have been in it for three years and its by far my favorite calling. Nothing brings YW closer to their leader then an embarrassing moment they can share and laugh. I've got plenty!!

Best wishes to you!!! YW is fun, although I have to admit as a teen I felt more like you. It will be fun to know the girls your daughter will look up to, and to spend time with her at various activities.

You'll do fabulous! Like everything else you dabble in, you'll put your whole heart into this, I know it.

Nuh uh.

That underwear thing was a joke, right?

Shut Up!

I would die.

You will be awesome!

Be yourself. Because you are fabulous!

And you have a cute bum- so who cares who sees it?

So, I am super excited you are in YW now. And, a little relieved to find someone else who feels like this is the most intimidating calling around. I found teaching RS to the wives of general authorities while in my early twenties less overwhelming in many ways!

I am still looking for my "comfort zone" -- perhaps because I felt like I did not relate well to YW when I was one, so how am I supposed to do it now? In any case, I have found that I do enjoy it and that I genuinely love and care about the welfare of these girls. I just tell myself that is what matters most.

I'm sure you're going to be an awesome laurel advisor. You have so many great experiences to share with the girls. I was the laurel advisor in the Vienna ward for a couple of years and loved it - although it was a lot of work! Especially with that outdated lesson manual... Good luck!

I was in YW for a LONG time. I am amazing friends with the girls that are in college now. It has been one of the biggest blessings in my and my family's life.
You will love it.
Except for when you hate it.
And then you're on your own (and believe me, the hate it days were often -- YW is a time-consumer).

Girl, you know that I will always get your back. Plus, a few of the men in the ward need a small thrill.
I'm coming to a better place with you taking my perfect calling and leaving me with ..... a lot of fun phone calls?!? You'll love it. And the girls will gain so much from you. Plus you need to have this experience to prepare you for the YW President position.

How awesome! You will definetly love the Young Womens program. You are going to be a huge hit with the girls because you are very cool and happening! Plus you know how to plan a great party! I'm envious, next to primary it's my favorite!

Denise I wish you would have been my young womens leader I might not have gotten kicked out of the laurels class then. You will do great.

In answer to Amy's question: The underwear story is real. And, like Amy, I think you have a very cute tush, so don't worry about it!

Can I tell you again how completely psyched I am to have you in YW? Oh yeah, AND I forgot to ask you how the heck you got the perfect looking white egg to be funky and green on the inside? The YW were completely enamored with you and you had so many awesome points in your lesson...sometimes it's only Nicole who really answers questions, so it was a huge success! :)Fiona

The thought of Young Women's intimidates me also, but I know you'll do great!

We were busy with a wedding all weekend, so I missed a few of your blogs....please wish Josh a Happy Birthday from us :)

I just got released from my calling in the cub scouts!!!! Jump for Joy!!!

They called me as a Relief Society teacher. Little nervous about that.

I would be completely mortified if I had my skirt tucked in my underwear!!!

And my butt is no where near as cute as yours!!!

At least you'll have something to joke about... Life is so much more pleasant when we can laugh at ourselves!!!
